University
The University of Greifswald was founded on October 17th, 1456. About 550 years later the studies at GreifswaldUniversity were evaluated as being among the best in Germanyaccording to various rankings. Small seminar groups, well equipped libraries and intensive contact with the professors are its strong points. The study subjects range from theology and arts to natural sciences and medicine.
In October 2001 a “Joint Educational Training Center” (JETC) was installed by the three partners University of Greifswald; Hanoi University of Science (HUS), a part of Vietnam National University (VNU); and the Institute of Biotechnology (VAST). It operates within the framework of a so-called "study export" initiative promoted by BMBF and DAAD.
In March 2002 a foreign branch office of Greifswald University was opened at Vietnam National University (VNU) to coordinate cooperation between the two universities. The office is situated in the building of the Hanoi University of Science. The head of this office is Dr. Le Thi Lai, who studied at the University of Greifswaldand graduated with a PhD in Geology from that institution.
The Institute of Geography and Geology consists of the Geography Department and the Geology Department. The institute is part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, which was founded in 1951.
Role in the project
The Institute of Geography and Geology is responsible for the “local IWRM in Nam Dinh” and is also involved in the “Development of a Decision Support System for IWRM.”
