Institute
The Southern Institute
of Water Resources Research (SIWRR) is an agency for scientific and
technological research and post-graduate training for the southern Vietnamese provinces
under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The institute’s key activities
are:
- Formulating
and organizing the implementation of scientific programs and plans aimed at
meeting the demands for developing and managing water resources.
- Research
on irrigation works, soil reclamation, irrigated agriculture, irrigated agricultural
systems, protection of the water environment, riverbank systems, estuary systems,
coastal and island systems, natural disaster mitigation and control, and information
technology in water resources management and development.
- Applying
and transferring new and advanced technologies into production; providing
consultation on irrigation technology; taking part in developing procedures,
norm regulations and standards for managing and developing water resources and
for assessing the water quality and efficiency of irrigation works.
- Post-graduate
training and taking part in training and fostering personnel in the field of water
resources.
- Cooperating
with national and international organizations regarding scientific research,
information exchange, technology transfer, and staff training in the field of water
resources management and development.
Role in the project
SIWRR is involved in
the subprojects “Development of a Decision Support System for IWRM” and “local
IWRM in Can Tho City.”
